It brings a chuckle to hear the story of D.A.D.S. Electronics humble beginnings. “It wasn’t really a planned business,” tells Jay Brenk, company co-owner. It started initially as a repair business for VCR’s, televisions, and stereos, which is still a part of D.A.D.S. services today. “It was more of a get-out-of-the-house sort of thing,” Jay tells. It was a way to move out of the parents home and pay the rent, and do some skiing at Spirit Mountain.

“On Father’s Day we came up with the name D.A.D.S. Electronics first, then we filled in with the acronym Duluth Audio Distribution Systems,” tells Co-Owner Peter Prudden.

Eventually, the amount of business grew to such proportions that Jay and Peter decided to open their own store on Matterhorn Drive, where D.A.D.S. Electronics exists today.

The main difference in D.A.D.S. and its competitors is that the variety with which the electronics products and services are offered are much more extensive. From car starters and car audio custom installation, to TV’s and Custom Home Theatre installation, to Structured Wiring, D.A.D.S. can fulfill most electronic needs for its customers.

The experience and knowledge of its staff is extensive. “We have been fortunate to retain some high quality employees …we’ve been fortunate to recruit others were some have gone… and have been able to maintain a high level of customer service which has given the longevity that our business has experienced.” Jay comments.

Long-standing employees of 6 to 20 years include, Chauncey who has worked in sales for 20 years, Jim has worked in repair and service for 18 years, and Darrin who has worked in home installation for 18 years, Phil who was worked in car audio for 16 years, and Joe who has worked in sales for 6 years. Even the newer employees have worked with D.A.D.S. for 1 to 3 years. The partnership has remained unchanged over the full 26 years of business, too. This creates a good path between quality and service.

The staff at D.A.D.S. believes in treating their customers the way they would like to be treated when they walk into a store. Two key things happen to cut through any confusion with home theatre systems and car audio installations. The staff at D.A.D.S. asks a lot of questions to find out what the customer wants, then depicts a design with descriptions and sometimes pictures. This way the customer has a better vision on the final install. Then, after the installation the customer generally calls with questions about how to accomplish a task on a menu or set-up, for example. “We make the customer feel comfortable,” Jay explains.

Quality electronics with affordability are offered at D.A.D.S. Electronics. Most have a three to five year warranty. If a component should happen to fail D.A.D.S. replaces the part promptly at no additional charge.
